Bill Murray’s Mean Left Hook

Bill Murray

assaulted a fan over the weekend with a golf ball - but don’t worry, it was an accident.

While teeing off in Tampa, Murray hooked his shot far to the left and hit Gayle DiMaggio plumb on the noggin. Surprisingly, however, the fan didn’t request monetary compensation or threaten a lawsuit. All she wanted from Murray, who quickly went to make amends, was a signed copy of his golf-themed flick Caddyshack.

DiMaggio had to go to the hospital after the incident, receiving a few stitches to the temple. She says the actor and occasional golfer “came over and laid down on the ground with me, and he was very concerned,” she recalled. “Once he knew I was okay and not seriously hurt, then he started joking with me.”

As Murray continued in the tournament event on the second day (Saturday), DiMaggio watched this time around from inside a screened enclosure. Friends and family who surrounded DiMaggio donned hard hats - just in case.
