Edward Norton thinks social networking sites are like “torture.” Unlike many other celebrities, the Leaves of Grass actor has never written an internet blog because he hates the idea of people cyber stalking him.

“I haven’t personally really engaged in a lot of this new kind of social networking stuff like Twitter or Facebook or MySpace,” the 40-year-old star explained. “I mean, the notion of people following what I am doing every day is like torture for me. It’s absolutely the last thing that I’m looking for. It seems to me to be really just about social chatter.”

Despite his web worries, Edward agreed to sign up on Twitter to help raise money for his favorite charity, the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust.

“It’s a good example of a way that you can turn that platform into something where you actually can accomplish something good,” he added to Parade magazine. “It’s my first attempt. We’re putting our running training log on Twitter. You can see can see pictures too on the site there. The trust conserves the wildlife and culture of the Maasai tribe of Kenya, Africa.”

Matt Damon had to pull out of a fundraiser because of a “family emergency of a serious nature.”

The Bourne Ultimatum star was due to host an event for OneXOne - a charity which aims to improve the health and wellbeing of impoverished children around the world - in San Francisco last night, but instead had to return to his home in Boston yesterday evening. It was at this same event that Charlize Theron kissed a woman for $140,000.

Representatives for the 39-year-old actor have revealed the emergency didn’t involve any of his children—Isabella, 3, and 14-month-old Gia Zavala - with wife Luciana .

How much would you pay for a kiss with ? Well, this woman thought it was worth a whopping $140,000.

At a charity function last night for OneXOne, the Oscar winner sweetened a South African package - which included World Cup tickets, a safari and a Nelson Mandela meeting - with something sweet of her own. “There is no way I am leaving here with Jeremy Piven getting a higher bid. I’ve got t**** for God’s sake,” Theron declared.

Thanks to a bonus 7-second smooch with Charlize, a male bidder raised the stakes from $37,000 to $130,000. Unfortunately, the fella was a mere $10,000 short. A lucky woman in the crowd wound up getting the prize…and a 20-second lip lock.

John Mayer: Twitter advice expert to Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus

We all knew that John Mayer was fairly obsessed with Twitter—this is the guy who told us that his penis fell asleep. Who knew that he’d let this obsession get to his head so much that he feels the need to offer advice to everyone?

Seeming to have gained insight into the mind of a 16 year-old icon due to his affinity for Twitter, Mayer commented on Miley Cyrus’s departure from the social networking site: “She’s smart enough to realize there is some interference of the brain that she doesn’t want to deal with… I think if you’re in Miley’s situation, it might take a little too much time to play goalie for your own heart and mind.”

Elton John and husband David Furnish plan to expand their familyUPDATE: John and Furnish will not we allowed to take home the boy after all. Ukrainian national law prohibits unmarried and/or same-sex couples to adopt.

It seems as if Sir Elton John caught whatever bug Katherine Heigl contracted, as he now wants to adopt a Ukrainian toddler who “stole his heart.”

The veteran pop star and his husband David Furnish “would love” to adopt 14-month-old Lev after spending time with him at an orphanage for babies with HIV or who have parents with the disease.

“David and I have always talked about adoption. David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said ‘no’ because I’m 62, and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn’t be fair for the child. But seeing Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don’t know how we do that, but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David’s heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home. I’ve changed my mind today. He’s such a scrumptious thing, bless his heart.”

According to orphanage worker Olga Rudneva, Elton said he didn’t mind if Lev was HIV positive or not. The tot’s mother reportedly lives near the children’s home, but has not visited her son since she gave him to the center.

Jackson 5The Jacksons will reunite at the Michael Jackson tribute concert… and possibly perform?

Jermaine Jackson,  who shot to fame in The Jackson 5 alongside his brothers Jackie, Tito, Marlon and Michael, has refused to rule out joining his musical family on stage at the show he is planning in Vienna, Austria, on September 26.

When asked if he plans to perform with his siblings, Jermaine said, “That could be one of the surprises. Being a producer I wanted to put a show together because it is a family thing. My family is very busy, Janet is doing something right now. I have invited all of them, so, you never know—once the music hits them they will probably want to come up and perform and do what they know how to do. But definitely I have committed myself to performing.”

Jermaine revealed he has invited his mother Katherine Jackson to the event, along with Michael’s three children—Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as “Blanket.”

“I spoke to my mother and I said I wanted to do something for the fans in Europe. She has supported this from the very start.”

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis wishes she could “just sing” and forget about red carpets and promotional tours.

The “Happy” singer sometimes dreams about throwing away her celebrity lifestyle for a more normal existence, but will put up with almost anything if it will “help people.”

“I definitely have moments when I come home and shut the door and think that all I want to do is sing. But then I think, wait a minute—how are people going to hear my music? The bottom line is that if I can inspire, create awareness and help someone or an animal in any way, then it’s all been worth it.”

Paris Hilton in Central America

Humanitarianism seems a bit infectious in Hollywood these days—so infectious that Paris Hilton has caught the bug.

Paris channels Angelina Jolie as she poses for her Twitter picture, holding a baby in a children’s hospital.

I’m glad that this trend is of the do-good fare, as opposed to the meaningless and detrimental effects of Paris’s past habits.
