Sanjaya Malakar, the Author
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television, Where Are They Now?
During his time on American Idol’s sixth season, Sanjaya Malakar enjoyed a unique sort of fame. His biggest critics said he couldn’t sing a lick - but nothing could sway his fans from their die-hard devotion. He made waves with his changing hairdo and seemingly against-the-odds run on the show…but does Malakar have a few waves to make for the series yet?
“I realized that I had a story that no other past contestant has said,” Sanjaya Malakar recently told Access Hollywood.
The realization led him to pen the autobiographical Dancing To The Music In My Head, which will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the world of Idol, told from Malakar’s point of view. A companion CD of the same name will be released at the same time.

Kevin Costner to Attempt Country Music
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music
What do you do when your movie career fizzles? Well - if you’re Jessica Simpson Kevin Costner, you turn to country music.
Kevin, who was last seen in Swing Vote, recently told People that he will be releasing a country album next month.
While this might seem like surprising news to most Costner followers, the 53-year-old has been moonlighting as a musician for quite some time now. In fact, some of his Modern West band members have been working with him for nearly 20 years. (Not that this qualifies them to sell any tracks or anything.)
The album - which Kevin co-wrote six songs for - is due out on November 11. Assuming the actor doesn’t line up any other acting gigs (he just recently wrapped work on The New Daughter), the band will be out touring by the end of this year. Expect the ladies of The View to feign interest shortly.

New Edition and NKOTB Working Together
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music

What do you do when you’re a reunited boy band in need of a publicity stunt? You join forces with another boy band.
Last week, the New Kids on the Block hit the recording studio with the group that hit the music scene before them: New Edition. It was the first time both Maurice Starr creations have worked together on a project.
The song - which does not include bad boy Bobby Brown - is being put together by RedOne, the same man also responsible for Heidi Montag‘s new track ‘Fashion.’ (Just in case that news raises any red flags for you.) According to the producer, the song “sounds very universal and melodic and has both sides in it: The R&B, which is New Edition and the pop side for New Kids.”
You can expect to hear ‘Full Service’ on NKOTB’s upcoming album.

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds Engaged
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Music, Engagements

This is really turning out to be a busy month for Scarlett Johansson. Not only will she be debuting her first album on May 20th, she’s now sporting a new sparkly ring.
People magazine reports the 23-year-old recently became engaged to Definitely, Maybe‘s Ryan Reynolds, her boyfriend of one year. Johansson’s rep said the proposal actually happened a while ago, though no specific details were disclosed.
This will be the first marriage for both actors. In the past, Scarlett has been linked to Josh Hartnett, her co-star in The Black Dahlia, and Chapter 27‘s Jared Leto. This will not be the first engagement for Reynolds though. The 31-year-old was previously set to marry singer Alanis Morissette. In fact, the two officially broke up shortly before he started dating Johansson.
No wedding date for the happy couple has yet been announced.

Mariah Carey Edges Past Elvis
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music
Although I knew this day would eventually come, I still have a hard time believing it’s finally happened. Mariah Carey has just now surpassed The King.
Mariah’s latest single, Touch My Body, just became the Number One song on Billboard’s Hot 100. This achievement gives the 38-year-old singer a total of eighteen #1 hits on those charts, edging her right past Elvis Presley. (He was holding reign at 17.) With a few more years under her belt, she may one day pass The Beatles as well. (The Fab Four clock in at 20 toppers.)
While I will fully admit that I like many of Carey’s songs, I find it strange to even think of her musical library being in the same realm as those two legends. Will her songs eventually stand the test of time? Which one of her singles could possibly compare to something like Let It Be or Can’t Help Falling in Love?
Carey’s next album, E=MC2, will be released on April 16.
