VMA Fashion: Who Hit a Sour Note?

Award season is long, fraught with gossip, and seemingly unending. Someone always walks away with a statue - some performers and artists walk away with several. But by the time the same awards are given out the next year, no one really cares who won what the year before.
What we do remember is what they were wearing when they were doing it. People may not remember which Grammy Jennifer Lopez won the year she wore the green Versace gown, but they remember the gown. This year’s VMAs may be remembered for several years - the pictures not of moon men statues, but of the clothes everyone wore.
Whose couture sang the sweetest…and whose fashion was completely discordant?

Place Your Bid on Britney Spears’ Clothes
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Clothing, Charity
Interested in owning something from Britney Spears’ heydey? If so, this upcoming auction might be for you.
The online site Gotta Have It! will be hosting an event later this month featuring memorabilia from a list of iconic artists. Amongst the items offered in the Rock & Roll Pop Art Auction will be a jumpsuit worn by Elvis and a filled-out day planner of Madonna‘s (written in during her Sean Penn years). Several articles of clothing from Britney will also be up for grabs.
Some of Spears’ pieces include:
- A t-shirt from her Mickey Mouse Club era. The tee - later given to her grandmother - has Spears’ autograph along with Justin Timberlake‘s, Keri Russell’s and Christina Aguilera’s.
- Outfits from two of her concert tours.
- A blue-and-white outfit worn for a Christmas Pepsi campaign.
Bidding will start on July 21 with all proceeds going to charity. More information about the event can be found here.

Avril Lavigne Launches Fragrance
Posted by Kathleen Kane Categories: Music, Television, Style, Rumors
For someone who has lashed out about her fellow pop rivals like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and even Paris Hilton, newlywed Avril Lavigne is hypocritically following right in their footsteps by launching a fragrance line.
The 23 year old “punk”-turned-glam girl has already penned a deal with Proctor & Gamble Prestige Products, she divulges to Women’s Wear Daily: “Creating this fragrance is a fun process and I am looking forward to sharing it with everyone.”
No word yet as to an exact date; however, if you truly plan on purchasing the product, you can expect it in late 2009. As much as I loathe her, I can never deny how large her fan base is. There are, after all, too many confused pre-teens and misguided teenagers who would succumb to actually spending money on this. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hot Topic ended up supplying the perfume, either.

Madonna Back to Kissing Women
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Photos
I wonder if Britney Spears is experiencing any pangs of jealousy right now.

Last night during a Paris concert, Madonna found a new lady to tease the audience with. This kiss comes nearly five years after the singer’s much talked about smooches with the pop princess and Christina Aguilera. (If you need a reminder of those moments, you can see them again after the jump.)
I guess it doesn’t matter if Madonna is 45 or pushing 50. A racy publicity stunt works at any age for her.

Share the Spotlight? Not Christina Aguilera
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Celebrity Babies, Rivalries, Rumors
They shared the same delivery weekend, but no way will Christina Aguilera and Nicole Richie share a magazine cover - not if Aguilera has anything to say about it. Despite negotiations which took several weeks, Aguilera has nixed a deal with OK! Magazine for an issue which was supposed to contain photos of the diva and her new baby, Max. Because the magazine couldn’t guarantee a full-cover photo, Christina walked.
The decision not to give her the full cover, according to one “insider,” stems from the wedding photo spread the magazine previously did on Aguilera. The source says the issue didn’t sell as well as the magazine had hoped, proving she’s not a big seller when it comes to print media. Another source, who is supposed to be familiar with Christina’s magazine contracts, says Aguilera’s contract states no magazine running photos of Max may run photos of Richie and her new baby. “Christina can’t stand Nicole,” said one source.
OK! Magazine says they cannot comment on celebrity contracts.
