Kate Gosselin Wins Round 1

Kate GosselinEverything that’s been going on thus far was merely a warm-up to the real Jon and Kate Gosselin war, which got underway this week in court. So far, Kate’s ahead thanks to a ruling made by Judge Arthur R. Tilson.

For now, Jon Gosselin has been ordered to return $180,000 of the $235,000 he’s withdrawn from the joint bank account. According to lawyer Mark Momjian, Jon has to pony up the dough by October 26. “As difficult as this has been for me, I am pleased that the court has ruled fairly on behalf of myself and my children,” said Kate.

Let’s just pause for a second and really think about the staggering sum of $235,000, an amount which many Americans don’t earn even two years’ of work. As a matter of fact, the average firefighter/EMT annually in 2003…and they save lives.

Britney Spears: A Passenger in Her Own Life

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Child Stars, Legal Issues, Rumors

Britney Spears Papers were filed Monday with the L.A. Superior Court that have pretty well sealed the fate of one , who from now on will no longer be the captain of her own ship. That’s right - Daddy’s got control, and he’s going to keep it.

Jamie Spears has officially been awarded permanent conservatorship, or guardianship, of daughter Britney. He’ll determine what to do with her finances, career and personal life from now on…until the agreement is severed through death or the court system. Spears now has the legal right to pull the strings on Brit’s life, even to “restrict and limit visitors by any means.”

Seriously, does this sound a little ominous to anyone else?

Jamie Spears reportedly received a raise for his guardianship role recently, getting bumped up to $75 per hour. The raise gave him an income hike of about $51,000 annually. Now, he makes around 16 large per month just to hold Brit’s hand, tell her what to do and in general run her life. Basically, he’s getting paid to take care of his daughter. ...Is it me, or is that weird?

Lord Acton’s words from 1887 are often paraphrased into a famous quote which I think is relevant here:

“Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Josh Holloway’s Robber Sentenced to Prison

Posted by Kathleen Kane Categories: Television, Legal Issues

Josh Holloway can finally rest assured that his terrorizer is behind barsShortly after celebrating last Thursday’s ratings alongside cast and crew, Lost star Josh Holloway had more to celebrate yesterday with the satisfaction of knowing that the man who robbed him is finally in jail.

Alongside his wife, the model-turned-actor who plays Sawyer on ABC’s hit series Lost was terrorized back in October of 2005 by 23 year-old Ruben Royce. Awoken from their bed in their Hawaiian home, Royce held both Holloway and his wife, Yessica, at gunpoint as he stole their cash, credit cards, and Mercedes-Benz.

Royce was convicted in court yesterday, ultimately sentenced to 13-30 years behind bars for this and similar crimes he committed the following three weeks.

Hopefully this will mark a new turning point for the cast members of the hit show, as most of them have been struck by misfortune (this, of course, includes Holloway’s robbery) ever since the series started.

Tatum O’Neal Thanks Police Who Arrested Her

Tatum thanks cops, blames dog's deathAfter spending Sunday night in jail following her arrest for purchasing crack and cocaine, former Dancing With the Stars contestant Tatum O’Neal was released from court yesterday. Shockingly, her first remarks were thank yous… to the police who arrested her!

Claiming sobriety, the New York City jail survivor gratefully thanked her law enforcers for keeping her that way: “Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me! I was saved by the bell, by the guys in the Seventh Precinct.”

What I’m wondering was whether or not she was truly sober, thinking we would actually believe that she thanked those cops from the bottom of her heart. Then again, she may very well have been smart enough to learn from her fellow jailbird celebrities and look pretty good whilst being sprung from the can.

Someone to Watch Over Britney

Britney SpearsIt’s no secret that former pop star has had her fair share of troubles recently. She’s in a bitter with ex-hubby , she’s been admitted to the and she’s tragic media fodder. The latest reports say Brit will stay in the hospital for at least two weeks more, so now the whole issue has turned down a different path: who’s going to take care of Britney?

Father was given control over Britney (and her various assets) when she was hospitalized, but all that may change at a Monday hearing. A neutral party, or a different relative, may gain control, according to sources close to the situation. There is also another custody-related hearing scheduled for Monday, the latest in a long string of court appearances which determine which parent will parent Britney’s two children. Unfortunately, it seems right now Spears isn’t capable of taking care of herself.
