Dance is Over for DWTS’ Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Television, Break-ups, Videos
As we’ve learned over several years of Dancing with the Stars, couples that dance together don’t necessarily stay together.
Country stars Julianne Hough and Chuck Wicks are now the latest ballroom pair to go their separate ways. Their split follows breakups between Sabrina Bryan/Mark Ballas, Derek Hough/Shannon Elizabeth and Maksim Chmerkovskiy/Karina Smirnoff.

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Break-ups

UPDATE: It’s now being reported that Maksim dumped the “high maintenance” Karina over the weekend.
Wow. Wow.
If Tom DeLay had you turning off Dancing with the Stars next season, this bit of news may have you turning back in. After nine months of engagement, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have broken up.
The dancing professionals - who recently performed together in Broadway’s Burn the Floor - had been scheduled to marry in June 2010. The wedding would have come a year and a half after Maksim popped the question.

DWTS Champ Dating Ousted American Idol Singer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Television, Hook-ups
Mark Ballas is a fast mover…on and off the dance floor.
Earlier this week, the one-time Dancing with the Stars champ stepped out with the new woman in his wife: American Idol‘s Joanna Pacitti. Although most people only recently became aware of Pacitti (primarily because of her dismissal from the reality competition), it turns out she and Mark have “been friends for a long time.”
At the premiere of the new Jonas Brothers movie, the 22-year-old showered praise on his new girlfriend. “She is the most supportive person in my life and she’s been great,” Ballas stated. “We get to spend a lot of time together [and] we do pretty much everything together.”
Pacitti also spoke warmly about the 22-year-old dancer/singer. “We both get each other and understand schedules and even on a musical level, I’ve never met someone that’s so passionate about music…that’s what I live for so it’s amazing to be with someone who gets it.”
According to the couple, the two started dating eight months ago. For those trying to do the math, that would mean Mark had moved on approximately a month after he and Sabrina Bryan split.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff Talk About the Proposal
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Engagements
Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be an expert on the ballroom floor, but he’s just a regular guy when it comes to proposals.
In the above clip, the 28-year-old Dancing with the Stars competitor and his fiancee, Karina Smirnoff, talk about the night he popped the question.
NOTE TO FUTURE RING BUYERS: The phrase “I’ve been with a lot women” should never be uttered during a proposal.

Engagement for DWTS’ Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Engagements
To call these dancers “quick movers” would be an understatement.
Although they’ve only been together for less than six months, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff are now officially engaged. The two Dancing with the Stars competitors - who have known each other for about 15 years - began dating shortly after Smirnoff, 30, ended her relationship with Mario Lopez last summer.
According to sources, Maksim, 28, popped the question to Karina on New Year’s Eve while they were celebrating in Las Vegas. The proposal happened in between stops of their DWTS tour. (Both dancers are expected to participate in the next season of the ABC show when it returns on March 9.)

Another Dancing with the Stars Contestant Faces Federal Charges
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sports, Television, Legal Issues
We already knew Dancing with the Stars had a reputation of sending contestants to the hospital…but who would have thought federal court as well?
Today, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was charged by federal regulators with insider trading. This announcement comes nearly six weeks after after Helio Castroneves, another contestant from DWTS’ fifth season, was indicted for federal tax evasion.
According to the civil suit filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Cuban allegedly used information he received back in 2004 to sell stock he owned in Mamma.com (now known as Copernic), a Montreal search engine. When he became aware of an upcoming private sale, the 50-year-old promptly sold 600,000 shares to spare himself a loss of approximately $750,000.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff: DWTS’ Latest Couple
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Hook-ups

Over the past seven seasons, Dancing with the Stars has had its share of interesting relationships. We’ve seen celebrity/instructor couplings (Sabrina Bryan/Mark Ballas, Mario Lopez/Karina Smirnoff, Shannon Elizabeth/Derek Hough), married pros (Alec Mazo/Edyta Sliwinska, Jonathan Roberts/Anna Trebunskaya), father/son competitors (Corky Ballas/Mark Ballas) and sibling rivalries (Julianne Hough/Derek Hough). But we haven’t yet heard of any romances between the ballroom professionals, at least up until now.

Backstage Drama at Dancing with the Stars
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Rivalries

We’re still weeks away from the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, yet the drama may have already begun. According to the New York Post, female veterans of the reality hit are reportedly jealous of a particular competitor.
For the show’s seventh season, DWTS followers will see three new professionals on the parquet floor: Inna Brayer, Corky Ballas (Mark Ballas’ father) and Lacey Schwimmer. Unfortunately for Schwimmer, her debut has supposedly been spoiled by a few cold colleagues.

Can DWTS’ Julianne Hough Sing as Well as She Can Dance?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Television, Videos
Even though critics have recently panned actress Scarlett Johansson’s debut album, her music experience won’t stop other stars from moonlighting as a singer. (You can see Scarlett’s video here.)
Earlier today, dancer Julianne Hough performed live for the Good Morning America audience. The two-time Dancing with the Stars champ just released her first album and is set to go on tour with country artist Brad Paisley.
Listen and decide for yourself. Do you think she’s as talented a singer as she is a dancer? Or should she stick to her day job?
DWTS’ Sabrina Bryan and Mark Ballas No Longer a Couple
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Break-ups, Rumors
Just a week after rumors started circulating about Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff, we’re now learning of another Dancing with the Stars split.
Dancer Mark Ballas confirmed to Us Weekly that he and Sabrina Bryan are no longer a couple off the dance floor. The two started dating last season when they were partnered for the show’s fifth season.
Although the former pair didn’t perform on last night’s results show (maybe things would have been a bit too awkward?), Ballas claims he is still friends with the Cheetah Girl.
So how about Mark’s roommate, Derek Hough? Will he be able to drag out his relationship with Shannon Elizabeth for that much longer? I think we’d have better odds of seeing Shannon actually produce some hip action.
