Tom Cruise has admitted he "didn't expect" Katie Holmes to file for divorce last June.
The Oblivion star - who shares six-year-old daughter Suri with his 34-year-old ex-wife - was completely shocked when the actress decided to end their marriage after six years together and found it a challenge to move on with his life.
"I didn't expect it. Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor. I had an unbelievable amount of time to think about it. Life is a challenge," he said recently.
The three-times divorced actor added that he didn't expect to be single at his age but said that it has helped him to put things in perspective. "To be 50 and to have experiences and to think, you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you: This is it, what life can do to you,'" he explained.

Katie Holmes is reportedly planning to adopt a little girl.
The Dead Accounts Broadway actress is said to be eager for their six-year-old biological daughter Suri to have another sibling and is looking into adoption. A source close to the 33-year-old actress told Star, "Suri has been asking for a sister lately - she's even praying for one at night, which tugs at Katie's heart. Her goal is to have a new addition to their family within the next year."
The insider claims that although Katie has only just begun looking into the process, she has already consulted a high-end adoption agency and would prefer to adopt a two-year-old toddler in need of a home rather than a newborn.
Meanwhile, Kate is rumoured to be spending Thanksgiving with her ex-husband next Thursday as she thinks it is in their daughter's best interest. "Tom and Katie are determined to show Suri that they're still friends and devoted parents. They know it will mean so much for her, and both are happy to swallow their pride to make sure she has a fun holiday. Thanksgiving has always been a really big deal for them," a source said at the time.

Katie Holmes will reportedly spend Thanksgiving with Tom Cruise.
The Dead Accounts Broadway star - who split from the Mission: Impossible actor in June after six years of marriage - is said to be eager for their six-year-old daughter Suri to enjoy the holiday with both of her parents and is preparing to fly to a luxury ski resort in Telluride, Colorado with her ex-husband later this month.
"Tom and Katie are determined to show Suri that they're still friends and devoted parents. They know it will mean so much for her, and both are happy to swallow their pride to make sure she has a fun holiday. Thanksgiving has always been a really big deal for them," a source said.
Earlier this week a source close to the 33-year-old actress revealed she has never been happier. "Katie's happy, she's a totally new person," the insider said. The actress is currently starring on Broadway and makes sure to work her schedule around her daughter. "Most performances are in the evening so Katie can have an early dinner with Suri," the insider added.

Katie Holmes' father reportedly wants to find her a new husband. The Kennedys actress - who divorced Tom Cruise in August after six years of marriage - is said to hate being single and is ready to find a new man.
"Katie hates being single -- and her dad knows it. They have always been incredibly close, and he's made it his mission to try to find her a new man," a source close to Katie said.
The 33-year-old actress and fashion designer has been focusing all her energy up until recently on her six-year-old daughter Suri Cruise, who just started attending a private school in New York. But now her lawyer father Martin - who helped her quickly negotiate her divorce from Tom and secure primary custody of their child - is eager to see her focus on making herself happier and wants to play matchmaker for his daughter.

Katie Holmes Reconnects with Ex-Boyfriend Joshua Jackson

Katie Holmes has rekindled her friendship with ex-boyfriend Joshua Jackson.
Fringe star Joshua - who is in a long-term relationship with German actress Diane Kruger - has revealed is thrilled to have reconnected with his former Dawson's Creek co-star after she called him following her recent divorce from Tom Cruise. The 34 year old said they had a lot to catch up on during a recent phone-call.
"Like any old friend, it was like, 'Oh, hi how are ya? What's going on?' 'I had a kid'; 'Yeah, that's crazy, I heard!'... It was nice, it was very nice, actually," he said.
Katie and Joshua dated during the first season of the popular TV series in 1998 but only recently got back in touch following the mother-of-one's split from Tom Cruise in June. Canadian-born Joshua also recently revealed that although it's unlikely, he might be willing to reunite with Katie on screen for a Dawson's Creek reunion:

Tom Cruise Misses Suri

Tom Cruise misses daughter Suri "very much."
The 50-year-old actor is currently in Europe filming new movie All You Need Is Kill, while the six-year-old tot is in New York with her mother and Tom's ex-wife Katie Holmes, and the distance is starting to take its toll on Tom.
"Tom talks to Suri several times a day. He misses Suri very much. Tom and Suri are very, very close. He's up on everything that's going on in her life," a source close to Tom told People.
Tom's attorney Bert Fields recently revealed the Rock of Ages star was calling Suri twice a day as he wants to play a big part in her life. "Tom has been in England shooting a film. He calls Suri every day, sometimes twice a day. He loves Suri and is a constant presence in her life. As in the past, when he's shooting in a foreign country, he has to rely on daily phone calls," he said.

Katie Holmes is finding it hard not to give daughter Suri everything she wants.
The former Dawson's Creek actress - who was given primary custody of the six-year-old tot as part of her divorce settlement from ex-husband Tom Cruise - knows it's important Suri is not spoiled but has told friends it's not easy telling her no because Tom is happy to indulge in his daughter's every whim.
"She said the divorce has been hard on Suri and she's acting out. Katie says no to some things, but gives a little leeway. She knows Tom is going to spoil her," one friend said.
While Katie wants Suri to stay grounded, it was recently revealed Tom had set up a "sizeable trust fund" for the little girl. The Top Gun actor - who is giving his former spouse $400,000 per year in child support until Suri turns 18 - has created the additional payment plan for the youngster upon Katie's request, although the youngster will be unable to fully legally claim the money until she's in her 30s.

Katie Holmes to Charge for Public Appearances?

Cash-strapped Katie Holmes is considering charging for personal appearances.
The 33-year-old actress - who chose not to take a huge payout following the breakdown of her marriage to Tom Cruise - has been looking in to ways to make money since the split with paid for appearances just one option.
"People are putting the word out she's willing to do paid appearances and just seeing what opportunities come to her. Katie never did this before her split with Tom. Brands (want) Katie to wear their clothing for money, and then she'll get photographed in it," a source told The New York Daily News.
Katie will receive $400,000 per year in child support until hers and Tom's six-year-old daughter Suri turns 18 and the actor has also set up a "sizeable trust fund" for the youngster, which Katie won't be able to access. "Katie wanted the trust fund put in place for Suri so that their daughter will be able to tap into after she turns 18 years old. Katie has absolutely no access to the money and didn't want to. She just wanted to ensure that Suri would have financial security as she becomes an adult. It's a sizable trust fund, but Suri won't be able to fully legally claim it until she is in her 30s," a source said.

The former Dawson's Creek actress - whose divorce from ex-husband Tom Cruise was finalized last month - admits being in the public eye can be tough but knows she's a lot better off than some people.
Katie - who was given primary custody of the couple's six-year-old daughter, Suri, while Tom was awarded extensive visitation rights - said, "I have a lot of feelings about the press. But there are a lot of people with much bigger problems and who are less fortunate. I try to keep it all in perspective."
Katie also says she tries her best to keep Suri grounded, despite the youngster being born to incredibly wealthy and successful parents: "I spray-paint shoe racks, because, why not? I think, 'Oh, I'm a great mom' - and then it doesn't really pan out the way I think it's going to. But the intention's there. I've always painted and done crafts at home - I have to stay creative in every aspect [of my life]. My sister teaches art, and she gives me a lot of ideas."

The six-year-old daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is now living in New York with her mother following the actress filing for divorce last month, and insiders say the couple are keeping their problems away from the little girl in order to make the separation as easy as possible for her. "Both Katie and Tom have really gone out of their way to make sure the transition between both households is as easy and normal as possible for Suri. Tom and Katie aren't fighting with each other because they haven't seen each other and so Suri has been protected from any uncomfortable situations. And both have agreed to not say anything derogatory about the other," a source said.
Insiders believe that Suri is adjusting so well as she was used to Tom being away for long periods of time with his work before he and Katie split. "Suri is used to her dad being away filming and not spending every single day with him. She loves the daddy/daughter time they get together and loves the trips so this isn't a new thing for her. She always spent time with him either on set or at home and even on vacation so she's really adjusted well," the source added.
