The nationally famous hockey mom, , made the surprising announcement this week that she is stepping down from her position as Governor of Alaska, an office she was supposed to serve until 2010. You may remember her as John McCain’s running mate in the 2008 election (won by President Barack Obama), or from the many hysterically funny impressions of her that Tina Fey offered up on SNL.

Paula Abdul Conflicting press reports and the overall loopy nature of American Idol judge makes it hard to pin down the answer, but there’s a lot of rumor regarding the Idol panelist and drug abuse. The burning question seems to be, is she addicted…or not?

An upcoming issue of will reveal that Paula Abdul suffered painkiller addiction and sought treatment for this affliction, but practically on the heels of giving the interview Abdul has denounced pretty much the entire thing. “I was quoted as something I didn’t say,” she tried to explain the situation on a recent radio show.

So…was Paula Abdul ever addicted to painkillers? Did she go to rehab for this problem? She’s saying no…but only after she said yes first. Confused? That’s just classic Paula Abdul.

, who hasn’t had a single acting gig since the ill-fated I Know Who Killed Me, says it’s all your fault that she’s not working. And you’d better help her out quickly, because she’s having trouble paying her mortgage and handling her bills. Evidently, even Disney paychecks only stretch so far.

“If people would just leave my personal life alone - because, it’s really not that interesting - then I could land a great role,” Linds recently explained to E! “But, all the sicko fans and the noise is so distracting.”

Someone please explain to Miss Lohan that it’s called press - and nobody ever earned or maintained a spec of stardom without it.

“I just want to live the dream that I’ve worked so hard for since I was four years old. I’ve been through a lot in my life. And there are many things I’d like to do to let people know that they just have to be strong,” Lohan said…before she continued to whine about how troubling it is to deal with the press she gets.

A recent video captured by TMZ shows Latin lovely Gloria Estefan on the go and still on her tour. Estefan answered routine questions about her career, remaining friendly and keeping a smile on her face even as she walked quickly from one place to another.

The idle chitchat took a strange turn, however, when the unseen paparazzo asked the singer about a job offer she once received.

“Is it true that you turned down a career with the CIA?” 

“That’s true,” Estefan answered without a hint of irony or humor. You can view the one-minute video .

Think the question, and subsequent answer, is a bit odd? I can do you one better: Estefan isn’t at all the first celeb who’s claimed to have been tapped by the CIA.

Hayden PanettiereHeroes star made an appearance at a red carpet fundraiser held by the Pacific Foundation, but the press got a little more than they bargained for when they tried to interview the young actress.

“Back up!” Panettiere reportedly shouted at photogs. According to , the actress became even more upset after posing for routine photos. When a reporter touched Panettiere on the shoulder, the actress allegedly shouted “don’t you ever touch me!”

Rumor has it that she then refused to speak to interviewers, saying only “you all make my life miserable,” before storming off the carpet. And maybe that statement is true…but, they also made her famous.

and Katie Holmes were spotted leaving the Ivy restaurant in L.A. recently. The gossip started when the happy husband put his hand on his wife’s belly. Today, everyone is convinced it can only mean one thing: there’s another baby on the way.

The rep for reports that the brunette actress is not expecting, but unnamed sources cited by OK! Magazine seem to think this is moot. “Tom would love to have another baby!” One insider is quoted as saying.

A different “insider” says of Tom Cruise, “He’d be happy to have another girl. Katie feels the same.”

Paris Parades BFF for Paps

DescriptionFor the holiday season, is doing some relaxing shopping in Aspen - with MTV reality-chosen BFF Brittany Flickinger in tow.

According to reports, Paris and her BFF were joined on holiday by sis Nicky Hilton and her boyfriend David Katzenberg. Hilton parents Rick and Kathy were on hand as well. Rumor has it that the entire group enjoyed the Caribou Club two nights in a row - though the elder Hiltons left the dance floor to their daughters well before the heiresses were ready to quit.

Paris has recently been spotted hanging with on other occasions as well. The duo have been photographed shopping and dining together in the past month, which would seem to prove that Paris didn’t ditch her newfound friend once the cameras stopped rolling on her reality show.

But, that’s probably the point of all these photo ops.

Tom Cruise Dead! No, Wait, Just His Career

An agent for was forced into releasing a statement today regarding the actor after rumors spread through cyberspace that he’s dead. The story said Cruise had tumbled in New Zealand, suffering fatal injuries.

“This is completely not true. Tom is not in New Zealand, nor has he been there recently. This is erroneous and unreliable Internet garbage,” were the words from Jeff Raymond, Cruise PR rep.

The news quickly made the rounds of U.S.-based gossip sites before moving all the way to Singapore and beyond, putting Cruise in the spotlight for the first time in several weeks. Two years ago, stories circulated that actor fell from the same cliffs mentioned in the report.

, wife to Cruise, will appear on Broadway this very night to officially open her show, “All My Sons.” Cruise will no doubt appear in the audience, proving that he’s hale and healthy after all. It’s really his career which has been taking a plummeting nose-dive, not the man himself.

Who needs a teenage boy bander when you can have a 20-year-old male model?

To be fair, it’s not known whether has a new boyfriend or not. But the teen star is undoubtedly aware of what the press is going to believe…and I have a feeling that’s exactly what she wants.

This past Sunday, Miley was seen spending time with Justin Gaston a model and wannabe country singer. Gaston, who met Miley and her father when he was a contestant on Nashville Star, first attended church with the Cyrus family before accompanying the 15-year-old to Disney’s Concert for Hope. And surprise, surprise - the Jonas Brothers were at that event too!
