Today, it’s being announced that Kate and her husband - Road director - have been apart since before her recent 82nd Annual Academy Awards appearance.

The actress - who first met on the set of Trapped in 2001 - has told friends she split from the Irish actor after a trip to Mexico over the Christmas period, and has now stopped wearing an antique commitment ring he had given her as a sign of his love.

“Stuart is gutted but Charlize said that she realized during the Mexican holiday the relationship was over. They had become more like brother and sister than lovers. It was she who ended it,” a friend of the couple said.

According to sources, the relationship was never really a relationship because it simply lacked chemistry. “It wasn’t really developing into anything, and wasn’t going to, so they decided they were better as friends,” a source claimed.

Unfortunately, the interest level may have been uneven. “[Lautner] liked her more than she liked him,” the insider added. “He went everywhere he could to see her, but she didn’t travel much to see him.”

Let’s just hope the two “plan to stay friends” as reported. They still have their film to promote in just a few weeks.

Another fairytale romance has come to an end.

According to People, actors and Jake Gyllenhaal have officially split up. This surprising news comes approximately two years after the former Rendition costars started dating. No reason was provided by the magazine’s source.

Although their relationship did have its rough patches, many thought this Hollywood romance would go the distance. Earlier this year in Elle magazine, the 33-year-old Four Christmases star was still praising Jake. ““He’s fabulous. He really is a fantastic guy,” Reese declared.

Witherspoon, who has been the subject of engagement rumors with Gyllenhaal before, filed for divorce from Ryan Phillippe in 2006 after seven years of marriage. The former couple share two children together: Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6.
