Taylor Momsen is No Role Model

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Television, Style

Taylor Momsen smokingGossip Girl actress-turned-musician doesn’t care what people think of her.

The 17-year-old star has been criticized in the past for her provocative outfits and outrageous behavior, but she insists she isn’t bothered by any of it as she is just being true to herself.

“It’s about owning it no matter what anyone says. This is who I am and this is who I am going to be. It’s about every girl being true to themselves.”

Taylor has previously said she has “no interest” in being a role model after she was slated for being pictured smoking when she was 16:

“I smoke, so what? Why do people give a s**t what a 16-year-old girl who they’ve never met does? It’s not like I’m sitting there going, ‘Kids, you should go buy a pack of cigarettes.’ When I walk outside with a cigarette and someone takes a picture of it and puts it on the internet, it’s not my problem. I’m just living my life and I’m not gonna live my life for other people. I don’t read that crap that describes me as having an attitude, but I don’t know why that’s a bad thing. I didn’t get into this to be a role model for seven-year-olds. I have no interest in doing that. If parents don’t like some of the stuff I do then they shouldn’t let their kids watch me.”

Taylor Momsen: Fashionably Misguided Gossip Girl

In most cases, working in a fashion-driven environment usually has its benefits. Unfortunately, has not yet reaped any of those. These two pictures clearly show that the hasn’t walked away with anything from her CW show - whether it be clothes from the drama’s wardrobe department or knowledge from the costume designers.

Ironically, both of these outfits were worn during New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. (The black deal on the left was worn at the Fashion Rocks event last Friday; the potato sack on the right was worn earlier this week at one of the runway shows.)

Sorry, Jenny Humphrey. If you really want to be accepted in Blair Waldorf’s inner circle, looking like Tara Reid isn’t the way to go.

Vanity Fair’s Young Hollywood Issue

Vanity Fair

Earlier this year, Vanity Fair devoted one of its issues to the ‘Fresh Faces of 2008.’ Now the magazine is focusing its attention on ‘Hollywood’s New Wave.’ What’s the difference? I have absolutely no idea.

In the August edition, readers will be able to find some of the younger generation’s brightest stars (e.g. the cast of , the Jonas Brothers). They’ll also be introduced to others still making their mark.

Will all of the chosen be names still heard years from now? Probably not. But that’s what makes these issues quite interesting to me. I always find it fun trying to predict those who’ll have lasting power and those who’ll burn out quickly.

You can see some of those youthful stars after the jump. The rest of them can be found here.
