Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television, Child Stars, Videos, Obituaries

For three sets of family, friends and huge contingents of fans, June 25 will be remembered as the beginning of a very dark time. In only three days, the lives of three very large personalities were cut short. The trio of tragedies will mark change in thee industries: music, advertising and television. That all of them passed at relatively young ages by our standards, and all went so quickly, has left those of us who remain in shock.
But these larger-than-life personalities are big enough to shine even once the lights are dimmed, even beyond the cold chill of death.

Paula Abdul on the HSN
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television
Obsessed with American Idol? In love with Paula Abdul designs? Or do you just want another reason to watch the Home Shopping Network? Now you can combine all these passions - and get some new jewelry, to boot.
According to Paula Abdul, she personally designs jewelry for each contestant on Idol. But the judge doesn’t stop there - anyone can see her designs if they just look hard enough. “I pretty much wear my jewelry all the time now, but I end up giving it away,” Abdul recently explained. She started making the jewelry back in 2002, when Idol first hit (and took over) the TV scene.
“I wanted something the kids could touch and feel to remind themselves that their talent got them here,” Abdul explained. The judge is no stranger to home shopping. Paula previously made a foray into QVC, selling some of her jewelry collection to home-buying fans.
Her new line, Forever Your Girl, will first appear on Saturday and feature products ranging from $29 to $200 (USD) in price.

Did Simon Cowell Wow Britney Spears?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Television, Rumors
“I think she was in awe of me,” Simon Cowell told the British press recently. Currently in country to work on the X-Factor, Cowell will soon be Stateside for the eighth season of American Idol. And, according to him, the reality TV contestants aren’t the only ones who seem to be overwhelmed in his very big presence.
When Britney Spears visited the show, Cowell said she was awed by him, though he admitted the statement “may be a bit egotistical.” Ego from you, Simon? Never! “She was just staring at me,” he admitted. “I said ‘touch me, I’m human,’ and I think that broke the ice.”
Cowell recently told the British media that he may not return for another season of X-Factor, though he’s been threatening the same of American Idol for years.

Sarah Palin: No Alaska for Hot New Media Star
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Rumors, Where Are They Now?
Sarah Palin came onto the election scene much later than John McCain, President-elect Barack Obama or Vice President-elect Joe Biden - but she instantly became the media’s favorite contender. New gossip suggests that Palin may not pack her bags to head back home right away…she just might have some gigs lined up in Tinseltown first.
A spokesman for Random House (one of the biggest publishing houses in the biz) told the New York Post’s Page Six that “there are several of our imprints who are eager to talk to Governor Palin. She clearly has a constituency and we know books by conservatively-centered politicos usually sell very, very well.” So she might as well take more jobs away from the real writers of the world.
Other gossip hints that Palin could be offered a slot as a TV pundit (I’ve got money riding on this one - I just know FOX News Channel would do damn near anything to have her) or even as a talk-show host.
Sure, that makes sense.

Alec Baldwin vs. My Name is Earl
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Movies, Television, Meltdowns, Rivalries, Breaking News

When Hollywood’s teen starlets engage in a feud, it’s usually over some hot young male celeb. When mature female stars squabble, it’s usually about publicity - and which one of them has a book out that talks about the feud. When well-established males in the industry start trading catty comments like a couple of kids…that’s entertainment.
Alec Baldwin started the brawl of the comments in the New Yorker. In Baldwin’s lengthy New Yorker profile, the actor launched into a gripe aimed at NBC shows My Name is Earl and Scrubs. Baldwin can currently be seen on NBC show 30 Rock, but after this one has to wonder for how long. When speaking of 30 Rock, Baldwin said, “if the show does succeed, it’ll be something of a [expletive deleted] miracle, because NBC hasn’t done a [expletive deleted] thing to help this show at all.” He further went on to state that NBC has “gone out of their way to wring the last drops out of My Name Is Earl and Scrubs. Those shows are done! They’re cooked! Yet they do a one-hour episode of Earl. You’ve got to be [expletive deleted] kidding me.”

John McCain in the Spotlight
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Legal Issues, Rivalries, Breaking News

For a man who seems to shun celebrity, John McCain certainly has been in the media a lot lately - and little of the coverage has to do with his policy or his plans for the country. The republican will now get more attention for a wholly different reason…he’s being sued.
McCain’s political strategy, thus far, has been to undermine presidential competitor Barack Obama by calling him that dirtiest of all words - a celebrity. In the ads, McCain shows clips of Obama with his adoring public while the Jackson Browne hit “Running on Empty” plays in the background. Here’s the problem: McCain never got permission to use the song.

Ed McMahon: Trump to the Rescue
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Television, Kind Acts, Legal Issues, Breaking News

Ed McMahon’s foreclosure troubles are finally coming to a close - and not in the way any of us expected. When the aging star announced his financial problems might soon leave him homeless, the world was shocked and dismayed. But, Ed, you used to announce Johnny Carson! Thanks to multi-millionaire Donald Trump, McMahon can continue kicking golf balls around his property - and the bank can stop breathing down his neck.
The Donald will purchase the McMahon home, circumventing foreclosure and keeping Ed in the style to which he has become accustomed - and the two didn’t even have to get married first. “I don’t know the man, but I grew up watching him on TV,” Trump told the media.

The Insider Drops Pat O’Brien
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Drunk, Rumors
What’s the best way to replace a lushy anchor? You substitute him with a non-drinking Mormon.
Just last month, we told you about Pat O’Brien’s recent trip to rehab. The Insider host, who made a living by talking about other celebrity issues, entered himself into treatment hoping to “maintain his sobriety.” (In other words, he wanted to stop drunk-dialing again.)
Since O’Brien’s leave of absence, a variety of people have stepped in to fill his shoes on the entertainment program. As of late, Donny Osmond has not only been the main subject of the show’s daily stories, he’s been pulling double-duty as Lara Spencer’s co-host. Now it seems that gig will become a permanent deal. According to the New York Post, Donny will be taking advantage of his new found popularity (thanks Marie!) and become a regular fixture in our households.
As for O’Brien? Paramount is apparently opting not to ‘renew’ his three-year contract. (That sounds much better than being ‘fired’.) I guess he’ll have a lot more time now to call a few friends.
